Chocolate Ruhrkuchen
Portions 8
What better way to make world famous sponge cake/cake and that depending on the country we can find them in various shapes and flavors, and as a curiosity, receive different name such as Kuchen (Germany), Pound cake (USA and UK), Quatre-quarts (France), Pound cake (Mexico, Venezuela), etc. Particularly (and with small variations), I prefer the German version, Although it varies very little from other versions.

For the dough
  • * 200 GR. butter
  • * 30 ml. milk (2 tablespoons)
  • * 200 GR. flour
  • * 200 GR. sugar
  • * 3 eggs
  • * 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
  • * 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • * 1 pinch of salt
For the mass of cocoa
  • * 2/3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • * 2 tablespoons hot water
  • * 1 tablespoon full of sugar
To decorate
  • * Sugar glass / Grated coconut (To choose)
  1. We preheat the oven to 170/180 degrees a few 10 minutes.
  2. In a bowl add all the ingredients for the dough (in softened butter, milk, flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, baking powder and a pinch of salt).
  3. Note: It is advisable to sift it when adding the flour/yeast.
  4. We beat two minutes at low speed, to join the ingredients.
  5. Then we beat the dough at high speed for three minutes.
  6. We oil the mould with butter.
  7. Note: The mold I used is circular (with hole in the Middle), but you can also use a rectangular mould.
  8. We poured two-thirds of the mass, and let stand until it is seated.
  9. We add two or three tablespoons of cocoa powder to the third of dough that has been, two tablespoons of warm water and a teaspoon full of sugar.
  10. We beat two minutes at half-power, until uniform colour.
  11. Put the cocoa mass forming a line that go from one end to the other of our mold. With the help of a fork, the dough inward and sideways we extend to "move the chocolate", without that it becomes integrated with the mass base (I know you).
  12. Insert the mould in the oven, and lower the temperature to 160 degrees.
  13. We bake some 45-50 minutes approximately.
  14. Council: If you see that the surface Browns too fast, It is recommended that you put aluminium foil while baking.
  15. Comes the time to check if our rich "chocolate Rührkuchen" is ready, for example, we insert a stick, If it comes out clean, We can let it cool.
  16. Let stand for 20 minutes on a bandeja-rejilla oven.
  17. Then, unmold.
  18. We can use grated coconut or powdered sugar to decorate (our taste).
  19. We will just have to sprinkle our favorite ingredient.
